Why does the Shield display in the upper right corner always show "0 / 100 Shield"?

Doesn't matter if a shield is activated or not, it always shows "0 / 100". And it feels like the shields are not activated, my health drops very fast (Level 5, Kinetic Shield 1 Lvl 4, Energy Shield 1 Lvl 5).
